Costa Nova

We had set off to another place that Fatima had told us about, called Aveiro, but instead of going into the town we decided to go to a village just outside it, on the coast, called Costa Nova. As we approached the village we were met by a huge red and white striped house that looked like it was made out of building blocks and could be in a White Stripes video. When we stopped outside the house to take a closer look a woman on the street told us to drive on into the village as the houses there were even more impressive.

We drove a few hundred metres further to the main front street that looks out onto a lagoon and almost every house or building that we passed was painted in multi-coloured candy stripes. It looked like a toy town of beautiful beach huts. On this street we spotted a row of motorhomes parked up so we quickly took the last remaining spot and then went for a walk around before going for a fish tea in a small friendly family run restaurant cafe.

The next day it was really misty so after breakfast we went for a walk around the village. Luckily the sun came out for a couple of hours so we were able to see the beautiful striped houses at their best. There is a beach that runs along the other side of the village but unfortunately the thick fog returned so we decided to get back on the road.
